We are interested in better understanding dynamic cell behaviors including invasion, shape change, migration, and proliferation. Our goal is to uncover the molecular mechanisms that translate developmental cues into diverse cellular behaviors.
We use the transparent nematode C. elegans to visualize cell behaviors in vivo and dissect the genes and signals that drive them, using an integrative approach combining molecular biology, reverse genetics, genome engineering, and live-cell imaging.
The cell behaviors we study are essential for normal development, and their misregulation contributes to diseases such as cancer. Understanding them in a simple model organism reveals the fundamental biology underlying human development and disease.
